Our Story

Who is Playhouse?

The Playhouse Theatre Group is a non-profit, volunteer-run community theatre focusing on creating powerful theatre experiences for all ages.  At Playhouse, we believe every child deserves a standing ovation.

Moments from our History

Summer 2014, Our Humble Beginning

Playhouse Theatre Group began as a handful of volunteers with a passion for bringing the joy of theatre to young students in the area.

Our first show, The Music Man, was a great success and helped us realize the need for more young theatre programming in the area.

2016, Giving Back to our Community

From the very start, we were dedicated to supporting the arts in our local schools in any way possible. In 2016, we used earnings from our shows to gladly provide 18 new violins to the Stevens Point Area Public Schools.

2017, The First Fairy Tale Ball

The Fairy Tale Ball began in 2017 and is now an Annual Fundraiser. Our goal was to give a big, magical experience to children in our small town while raising money for our educational arts scholarship fund. Each year, we donate tickets and costumes to other non-profits in the area to allow families who may not otherwise get the opportunity to experience this enchanted evening.

March 2019, The Fire

Sadly, the Springs United Methodist Church in Plover, our home and rehearsal space of the past 5 years, was lost in a devastating fire. Not only were years of collected costume pieces, props, and equipment ruined, but also the gathering place for the welcoming congregation of the Springs UCM. The fire took place right before the 2019 Fairy Tale Ball- we managed to persevere through the chaos and were able to put on a very successful event.

We were extremely fortunate and thankful that our amazing community came together to provide us with outstanding support, which allowed us to build back stronger.  We were given the opportunity to partner with the Stevens Point Area School District, which lead to us being able to utilize the space needed to rehearse as well as perform in the schools

2021, Playhouse Introduces Second Act

Branching out to give more theatrical experiences, Playhouse begins “Second Act” in 2021. This Branch aims to reach out to Playhouse Alumni and community members alike and provide top-level performances.

2023, A New Place to Call Home & Expanded Offerings

Playhouse begins rehearsing our new dedicated space at our current location behind Stevens Point Realty and making remodels in between shows.

Shortly after, Playhouse begins offering workshops in the space, building a strong programming curriculum to encompass a wider age group than our previous efforts allowed.

2024, Celebrating 10 Years & Looking Toward a Bright Future

As Playhouse approaches our 10th anniversary in 2024, we look back and are so extremely thankful to our community for their unmatched support over this past decade. Because of this, we’ve been fortunate to provide these important and unique art education experiences to area students, as well as invite the community to celebrate these experiences with us!

Your support inspires us to continue working toward our mission of providing wonderful and memorable theatre and arts programming for our local youth.
